11 April 2024 - saving democracy

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

How is it that U.S. democracy stood firm for over two centuries, through boom times and depressions, the Era of Good Feelings and the Civil War, the uproarious changes of the 20th century, and is only now coming into question by a sizable minority? Didn't the erosion begin when the country lost its national point of pride as the only great democracy in a world of monarchs and warlords? But policy has been directed toward a solution. American interventions abroad, in coordination with allies who are allowed to be like us, promote monarchs and warlords when they show democracy as a chaotic failure.
