The dictionary tells you how many words there are. The thesaurus tells you how many ideas there are. Divide the dictionary by the thesaurus, and you get a measure of how overgrown language is. Oh, but it's worse. Most words have multiple senses. Imagine the Utopia if we could free that wasted intellectual power to solve problems!
