How can we protect ourselves against well-researched, hand-made spear-phishing attacks like those of the Chinese government? Well, writing software is expensive, but recognizing software is cheap. If those who are speared send the code to anti-virus companies so that their products can protect against it, then the attackers to save money will be forced into ever more sophisticated methods, eventually creating artificial intelligences to automatically craft custom attacks against each victim, resulting in the extinction of humanity. So the optimal course is to curse fate and deny everything.
