10 February 2000 - Haider’s irony onion

It’s time to risk our teeth. Let’s bite into the irony onion. Ironically, the anti-democratic Freedom Party won a place in Austria’s democratic government. Peeling back the outer layer, Europe levies sanctions. Ironically, self-determination is out of fashion while democracy is in. Peeling another layer, democracy promotes political moderation. Radicals must become more moderate to maintain power. Ironically, the best policy may be to let everything work as it was designed to.
