7 February 2000 - Joerg Haider

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

“Do not allow yourselves to be disturbed by the anti-Austrian mood in foreign countries,” right-wing Freedom Party leader Joerg Haider advised his fellow citizens. “That will only make it easier to implement orderly immigration restrictions. In time they’ll see that we’re decent people of good character.”

clue:

The European Union hit Austria with political sanctions because Haider’s far-right party, now in the governing coalition, is seen as anti-democratic. This speech quotes some of his words and phrases that have been interpreted as pro-Nazi.

give me a clue so sweet and true
