“Do not allow yourselves to be disturbed by the anti-Austrian mood
in foreign countries,” right-wing Freedom Party leader Joerg Haider
advised his fellow citizens.
“That will only make it easier to implement orderly immigration restrictions.
In time they’ll see that we’re decent people of good character.”

Haider’s far-right party, now in the governing coalition,
is seen as anti-democratic.
