ISIS could not keep its caliphate because it had no friends, only enemies. ISIS is an extreme case, but it's a general failing of authoritarian governments; they push in every direction, so they get pushback from every direction. Iran is failing to learn this lesson right now. So what's to do? We can show Trump the door or follow the path of Iran.
