There we have it, from the mouth of Clever Hans: Golden Dome will be online in less than three years, will work almost perfectly, and will cost $175 billion, never mind the book of unsolved technical problems. By now, we should have learned to never look a Trump promise in the mouth.

Most likely none of the 3 claims will come true. The chance that they all will is negligible.

My guess is that Trump decreed the schedule ("during my term") and effectiveness ("it has to always work"). Where did the fictional cost estimate come from? Maybe Trump said "too much" until somebody lowballed it hard enough.
