It's a complicated world out there, with all kinds of ways to go wrong. You could carelessly play the Moonlight Sonata in daytime. And it turns out that the ammeter that measures your existence ("I am quantified, therefore I am!") is not as important as the bathymeter that tells whether you're clean.
