The Syrian civil war is back on. Experts universally pronounced themselves surprised, but easily explained that Russia and Iran, who saved the government last time, were distracted by other problems. That is to say, everyone knew the situation, but (except for the rebels) nobody considered the strategic implications, including the people whose job it is--I mean, was. Now they're replaced with real strategists, right?
