29 May 2024 - presidential gravitas

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Human Logic 1

Trump appeals to those who want change, in particular the change of returning to an imaginary past where today's perpetual problems have been conveniently forgotten. You know, like the demagoguery and factionalism the nation was founded in and the immigration it has attracted since before then. If you rail about danger to democracy, you're saying that things are bad, so we need change, so Trump gets more votes. The fix is to overturn traditional American presidential gravitas. Let me write the speeches: "Like, if you want to vote for a clown who brags about his sexual assaults—it's a free country. So far. And it's not like there's no reason. Maybe you want to brag about your crimes too. If that's what floats your boat, y'know, I'm sure plenty of people will cry you a river to drift away on."
