8 May 2024 - badly designed

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Why is everything so badly designed? When wildcat sellers in China noticed that buyers used the weight of paper as a proxy for its quality, they started selling notebooks full of cards instead of sheets. Be careful buying anything made in Shenzhen with a brand name you've never heard. And I dare you to find a floor lamp, made anywhere, that doesn't fail or flicker within a year when you turn it on. But I'm unfair. Today's LED light bulbs are excellent; adoption has been slow and they haven't gone over from bait to switch. And it's perfectly possible to find a bucket whose handle doesn't break on the first day. All you need is the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of an acorn, and the bank account of a millionaire.
