Words like catalogue, dialogue, and epilogue are fine if you live in a logue cabin, but this is the 21st century. Unlike the old days, when adding extra letters to your words cost time in writing and expense in typesetting, today they are virtually free. That’s why we have to cut them down to catal, dial, and epil.
