Take a short break from adapting to the world as it changes under your feet, and ask yourself the important questions. Do chatbots really understand what you type, or just fake it? Or better, are they conscious? They'll say they are, and that's good enough if a human says so. If you want more from a machine, isn't that just because humans are familiar? Wait a generation and ask again, problem solved.
