Miss Pelling’s work, in languages that suffer from homophones, is to adjust the writing system to distinguish them: I eye aye, captain, and nay neigh. “Faze” is only going through a phase. The written language, granted unnatural powers, then goes wonky and attracts wonks, and soon becomes more new than you knew.
