For thousands of years, those who read Euclid believed that its postulates and theorems were, like the claims in the Declaration of Independence, self-evident. You know, all parallel lines are created equal, and so on. Today we believe that we live in a non-Euclidean universe, and that only the little people are created equal, such as people in the past.
