The second rule of human psychology is that everything is backwards. Trying to reduce discrimination increases discrimination. The first rule is that nothing can be explained. When you think you’re on to something, you are overlooking myriad social status indicators, stereotypical associations, and influences that have never been named because the social evaluation mechanism is too complex to grasp. Why, humans are nearly as opaque as our fancy new AI systems.
