Or we could have been born in a place like the 7-planet system around red dwarf TRAPPIST-1, just announced, where all seven planets (which are full-sized and have no connection with Snow White) are closer together than any two planets around our comparatively giant sun. You would be able to see surface features of other worlds with the naked eye. On the downside, the red dwarf will shine for trillions of years, so the word “sustainable” would be hard to get out from under.
