Enforcing Interesting Times

One of the many tremendous advantages of an occasional crisis is that smart people who prefer a boring life get fired and are forced to live in interesting times after all. They start innovative businesses which eventually grow large, suck dry the talent pool that would otherwise start innovative businesses, and set the stage for the next essential crisis.
