War of the Words

As the world economy crashes spectacularly into blazing ruin, the roads clogged with refugees desperately seeking any escape from the broken cities, truth is not only the first but an ongoing casualty. As it were. It used to be that you could tell a real war, because it was called a police action, but nowadays even an ongoing policy irritation can be suddenly renamed a currency war.

The basic situation has been slowly shifting. How is it that “currency war” gained such abrupt currency?
