The important difference between modern cloud computing and old-fashioned yawn-prone on-demand computing is that the cloud does not promise to work. Any particular cloud computation might stop in the middle for no reason, or because somebody topped your bid, and it’s up to you to cope. No yawns! The theory must be that promising less will leave more room for hype. Pay attention, government of Japan! The cloud lesson is for you!
