Winning the Foot Race

First there was the shoe bomber, making us remove our shoes to fly. Now there’s a shoe thrower. Soon we’ll all be taking a leaf from Japan’s book and removing our shoes at the door of every public building, but instead of leaving them there, machinery will carry them underground to a bomb-proof vault. That will stop the bad guys cold!

clue:

The Japanese custom is of course to remove shoes when entering a home or school, but not a public building.

give me a clue so sweet and true
