OK, maybe you don’t buy my last theory, or the one before it either. But the socio-bioevolutionary jumble of mumble is not mumbo jumbo. Crowd behavior is subject to Darwinian selection: it evolved, as surely as peacock tails. Just as the peacock benefits from its absurd potlatch tail, somebody must benefit when mobs behave like lemmings... somebody who influences the mob’s behavior. I think it’s me!
