Smugness is the hidden force that causes the universe to expand. The rich get richer, power feeds on power, and the weak cannot form alliances strong enough to break that basic positive feedback. But smug overconfidence breaks it; the strong fall back, and the world boils over with change and progress. That’s right, losers, all you have to do to win is to keep losing for long enough. Bwahahahaha!
