diplomatic consulates? Why does China want to keep North Koreans
from getting out?
Chinese diplomat: Such a defensive action, a justified—

understand how that can help China.
Chinese diplomat: Ahem. A justified deviation from international
norms that serves to protect and enhance the security not only of
China, but...
slow thinker: But it angers so many countries, especially
when you keep lying like crazy about it.
Chinese diplomat: ... but of the entire globe.... What was
I saying, again?
slow thinker: Don’t let me interrupt.
Chinese diplomat: Ah. By upholding the authority of all
governments, China thus contains the explosive problem of emigration,
preventing its spread to other nations.
slow thinker: So you mean....
Chinese diplomat: It’s a humanitarian exercise. If the Chinese
started leaving, the world would be swamped!
