3 March 2000 - Amadou Diallo lesson

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

A Lesson in Elementary Logic

What do you think, class? Was it good or bad for the police to kill Amadou Diallo, who was innocent and unarmed? That’s right, Mindy, it was a bad thing. Another question. Was the jury good or bad to acquit the four police officers? You are correct, Mork, the officers are innocent under the law. What do we conclude, children? Everybody, now. Excellent, excellent! The law is bad! That is the correct answer. Today’s lesson, class, is about how to change bad laws. We’re going to do something called civil disobedience. Everybody line up here, and Coach Perez will hand out the weapons. Listen carefully, now. We’re going to go out on the streets with our guns and make some innocent mistakes.
