Bowing to pressure from privacy advocates, Intel backpedaled Monday on its plans to quietly pickpocket personal information from computer users. “For now, we’ll ask web surfers to surrender their wallets voluntarily,” explained the faceless corporate monolith. “For the longer term, we’re talking with the government about installing ID chips in babies at birth. Frankly, the government does a better job than we can of overriding those privacy freaks.”
