24 May 1998 - ABL: why stop war?

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced that the UN will no longer seek to discourage war between nations. “With advanced precision weapons, only the bad guys get killed anyway,” he explained, “so why bother? In fact, maybe it’s a good idea to have a few more wars, you know, to clear out the underbrush.”

clue:

Before being named UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan was the Under-Secretary-General for Peace-keeping Operations.
